During the summer season, you probably won’t think very much about how clean your windscreen is. 

Though when the first rays of sun hit and all you can see is a build-up of dirt and dust, you’ll want a quick fix.

Refill your screenwash

Noticed less spray when using your windscreen washer fluid? It’s time to top up! Having plenty of washer fluid in your reservoir makes it easy to clear your windscreen at the flick of a switch. 

It’s important to note that in the summer, your washer fluid can evaporate faster during warmer temperatures. So if it’s already low then it’s a good time for a refill before those sudden heatwaves hit! 

Topping up your windscreen washer fluid is easy, after locating the fluid reservoir under your vehicle’s bonnet. Simply open the cap and pour the fluid straight in, topping it up to the correct level as indicated by the markers. 

Make sure to choose a good quality screen wash that doesn’t leave smears and cleans effectively. 

Change your windscreen wipers

One of the best ways to keep your windscreen clear is to make sure you’ve got good windscreen wipers to do the cleaning.

In summer, excessive heat can cause the rubber to break down quicker, which is why it’s important to replace your windscreen wipers in summer. As well as winter!

Park in the shade if you can

Where you can, it’s also handy to park your vehicle in the shade during the summer. As we saw in the last tip, extremely warm temperatures can cause your blades to deteriorate faster making them less effective. 

Parking in the shade is one way to help make your windscreen wipers last longer, and will help avoid dust and dirt baking into your windscreen in the sun. 

Although shady, trees aren’t the best solution as they can drop leaves, bugs, and tree sap onto your windscreen. These can then stick to the glass and prove quite stubborn to clear away with just your wipers. 

Clean your windscreen often

We’ve saved the most obvious one till last, because chances are, you already know it! Cleaning your windscreen regularly is a great way to keep things from building up. 

A build-up of dirt or debris not only makes your windscreen look unclean but also affects your vision on the road. It’s important to be able to see clearly when driving whatever the season for your and others’ safety.  

With this in mind, make sure you pay special attention to your windscreen during your routine car wash. Don’t forget about other reflective surfaces like the windows, mirrors, and rear windscreen, as you’ll use these too at some point!
